Become a Shed Member
These are the steps involved in becoming a member of Blackwood Hills Men's Shed.
1. Eligibility: Membership is open to men aged 18 and over. Some Shed members with disabilities may need to be accompanied by a carer to, from and during a Shed session.
2. Check Us Out: Visit the Shed on either a Wednesday or Friday morning to see what the Shed does and meet the blokes, then decide if participating in the Shed is for you. Preferably, call our Coordinator in advance of your visit on 0491 644 824 to let us know to expect you.
3. Apply to Join: If you decide to join the Shed, complete a Membership Application form. Applicants with physical disabilities may call on the assistance of a carer or a Shed member to complete the form with them.
4. Pay the Annual Fee (currently $20): New members are not charged the Session Fee on their first visit to the Shed. See the What it Costs page for more details about making payments. Members whose carers attend throughout the session are also required to pay the Session Fee for their carer; carers are not required to pay the Annual Fee.
5. Wear Your Name Badge: On your next visit to the Shed you will be issued with a name badge which we ask you to wear throughout the Shed session, and to pay the Session Fee (currently $5). Name badges help you to be immediately known and recognised by the other members of the Shed.
6. Register Your Attendance: You are also asked to register your attendance at every time you visit the Shed; this is to ensure you are covered by insurance during the Shed session and for safety reasons so we can check that everyone has been evacuated from the Shed building in an emergency.
7. Adhere to Policies: All members must adhere to the Shed's policies and follow the Shed's procedures, especially those relating to safety and training.
